Bleux Strong

After a lifetime of dealing with the pain from hip and elbow dysplasia and complications from hip surgeries Bleux, my little stinker of a Rottweiler, was losing ground quickly.  My traditional vet was at her wit’s end about how to treat her or even keep her comfortable.  After a resounding referral or three from members of an online canine home cooking forum I belonged to I contacted Dr. Pam.

BleuxAmong many other things Dr. Pam has done the changes to Bleux’s diet have made such a difference in her appearance and quality of life.  In addition to a non-grain diet with particular protein sources I made a home cooked stew tailored to her needs, and after the first time making it, the process has become second nature.  Bleux loves her new diet and eagerly and very persistently reminds me when it’s mealtime.  Now her black and tan coat is shiny and soft, she’s got a sparkle in her eye again, and her little stinker personality is back full force where before everything about her appearance and demeanor was literally gray.  I truly believe that without Dr. Pam’s help and the changes she’s made Bleux would not be here today.

My traditional vet is very impressed with the progress Bleux has made in the last 9 months and while she claims not to understand the “why” of the treatment plan, she is amazed at the end result.  The traditional prescriptions for arthritis and antibiotics for mysterious infections are no longer required and Bleux is feeling better than she ever has at nearly 10 years old.

Golden Angel

In January 2007, my 12 year old Golden Retriever Lucy was diagnosed with malignancies on both her Liver and Kidney; as a result she was forced to give up part of her Liver and the effected Kidney and her prognosis was 1-2 month.  Due to the areas affected, Lucy was not a candidate for any additional conventional methods of treatment.

LucyOriginally seeking herbal therapy coupled with acupuncture – we searched for a complimenting practitioner to assist in our journey.  Due to Lucy’s sensitivities, acupuncture and herbals were also not a viable option.  After much consultation and thought, Dr. Pam recommended a nutrition based approach to treatment under her continuing guidance and direction.  So in February 2007 we entered the fight to win. Dr. Pam advised and developed a diet plan which is not only nutrient and anti-oxidant rich but from the looks of the bottom of Lucy’s dinner bowl, very satisfying.  Some days her dinners look more appetizing than mine!  The results were not only encouraging but truly amazing – Lucy is almost to her 9th month after diagnosis and is living a remarkably happy well-balanced life.  The clarity of her eyes, softness and texture of her coat and overall pigment color has improved tremendously and her attitude/disposition seems to have gone back five years in time.

Our fight has been successful, through nutrition and exercise, as Lucy continues to beat all odds and live everyday to the fullest and offering encouragement to all who know her and her spirit.

I first became interested in improving the nutrition of all of my dogs when we adopted two sweet lab rescues, Remi & Tawnie to add to our crew.  Remi was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia - our traditional vet's options for his treatment left me cold (major surgery, a lifetime of pain management or euthanize him).  As I searched for better alternatives I kept coming back to nutrition.  As I started to slowly make changes to all my dog's diets - the results were amazing!  All of my dogs benefited from these changes.  I won't say it cured Remi's hips - but the overall improvement in his health was amazing.  As he started to feel better, he was able to exercise more.  Over time he increased the muscle tone in his hips and his improvement continued - in fact he went on to play successfully in dog agility for more than 5 years!

tawnie and remiIn addition to the benefits we saw in Remi, two of our other dogs had battled terrible skin allergies all of their lives, and with improved nutrition, these completely disappeared.  No more ear infections, no more hot spots, no more scratching bald patches and no more smelly skin.  The changes were dramatic to say the least!  The improvements seen first hand in my dogs were enough to convince me of the powerful benefits of providing my dogs with the best whole foods I could find.

Joe Boxer

Joe boxerIn April 2007 I was petting my sweet boy Joe and felt the lumps in his neck. Two weeks later, Joe's biopsy results came back to show that my "baby" had Lymphoma.  Chemotherapy was not going to be an option not just because of the cost, but it didn't promise enough time.

I chose to start Joe on a steroid and the traditional vets said I would have maybe 2 - 3 months with my boy.  Feeling very helpless, I met a friend from a rescue group who told me about Dr. Pam and urged me to check into holistic treatments for Joe.  Dr. Pam gave me a run-down of nutrition, and what’s "good" for cancer and what’s not.  I went home with a recipe tailored to his needs, and some good vitamins for him... thinking "How am I gonna do this?"!  I don't even cook for the HUMANS in my household!  The first batch of my home-cooked dog food was a struggle, but Joe LOVED it.

After a couple weekends of cooking, I had it down to a routine and now home-cooking for Joe is part of my normal weekend routine as doing laundry, or mowing the grass.  Joe never had one moment of upset tummy from the change.  Of course, Joe was VERY happy on his new meal-plan.  He never lets me forget when its meal-time!

Here we are 5 months later and Joe has never shown one moment’s sign of illness. He's even gained weight!  He's very much surpassed our traditional vet’s expectations.  The vet said she could not find ONE sign of Joe's lymph nodes being enlarged, and said "this dog is doing just AMAZING"!

Joe is very happy and healthy.  We celebrated Joe's 7th birthday on August 22nd, it was a very happy day!!
